Trunnion refers to the pin and supporting bearing that forms the hinge that allows the Kinzie Street Railroad Bridge to raise and lower. -- So there. Now that I have the definition of the title out of the way I can tell you how I came upon this spot. I was stuck in bicycle traffic. I was out driving around downtown in the late afternoon, scouting out different angles of the skyline that would be neat to shoot. Well I had this little spot on the map marked off near Kinzie Street. According to the map Kinzie was the first road to span the north branch of the Chicago River, so I thought that might be a good angle of the interior Chicago Skyline along the River. And I was right and I had about 45 minutes to learn just how right I was because at the time I arrived at the bridge about 10,000 people on bicycles came pouring out of the Merchandise Mart. It literally took 45 minutes for all of the cyclists to leave the parking lot and head west down Kinzie Street.
